‘Bailadila’ is an ode to the magical realm of Bastar and its tribe, told from the perspective of a city boy who’s in awe when he comes across his roots after experiencing the unfulfilled urban life. The song offers powerful vocals, groovy music, and raw lyrics that are sure to keep ringing in your ears long after you have stopped listening.

Have you come across something so raw that you want to protect it at all costs? Daira’s latest album ‘Jaadoo Bastar’ is such a beautiful, raw rendition in the Halbi language, that one can’t help but get enraptured by the raw musical marvel we get to enjoy. The song is as magical as the song describes Bastar, and we just believe in it, no questions asked.
In one word, the music feels out of the universe! It just feels like that family member that pulls you to the stage to dance. It’s so unique, so peppy, but it connects with the listener almost instantly. The guitars, bass, percussion, flute, and drums create a symphony of fusion music. It’s so invigorating and fulfilling, that you’re just thumping your head and tapping your feet without even realizing it. Co-composers Shivam Pant, Vikalp Sharma, Sourya Mukherjee, and Shreyansh Kejriwal have done a commendable job with Rahul Raikwar, Ashish Satyala and Vishal Thakur.

While all the elements of the song are empowering, it is the ultra-powerful vocals from Folk Singer Lakheshwar Khudaram that surprised me with their awesomeness because honestly, I did not expect it. From the very first note, you get goosebumps, because his singing is divine and connects with some high power, I’m sure of that. From there, it just keeps getting better and better!
Piyush Kapoor’s vocals in Hindi have a fantastically rare fusion of impeccable singing that’s just too perfect, but it’s equally raw and liberated. You just want to keep listening to him and just marvel at how well it complements the music and in fact, carries it.
The original folk lyrics by Late Shri Kaashinath Samanth ‘Bastariya’ and Hindi lyrics by Alok Ranjan Srivastava create a poetic depiction of Bastar, its natural treasury and aesthetics, underlining the beauty of Bastar’s culture, people, topography, and demography. If you don’t know about Bastar, you’ll start feeling like you know it and love it with all your might.
Inspired by Bastar’s rich but dwindling cultural tapestry, Mumbai’s art-rock band Daira immersed themselves in the region’s heart. Their album, ‘Jaadoo Bastar’, is a musical exploration and preservation of this endangered heritage. The whole team has created something phenomenal and we thank Daira for giving the world such a well thought out amalgamation of rock and Indian folk. Just listen to it, and bask in its warmth, uniqueness, and ethereal magic it showers in your ears!
