Davide Lo Surdo: The Guitarist Who Made History – Biography

Davide Lo Surdo, the fastest guitarist in the history of music, is a global ambassador for music. His talent and dedication continue to amaze and inspire audiences around the world.

Davide Lo Surdo is a 23-year-young Italian guitarist who was recognized by The Rolling Stone Brasil Magazine as the ‘Fastest Guitarist In History. Davide claims to play 129 notes per second with his unique guitar technique, a seemingly impossible feat! Lo Surdo’s story is one of passion, dedication, and natural talent. He discovered his love for the guitar at the tender age of 9, and by the time he was 13, Lo Surdo performed his first important concert at the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” in Rome, where he played a solo behind his head in front of more than 1200 people.

Since then he has toured extensively in India, Mexico, Brazil, Bolivia, USA, Germany, Switzerland, UK & his home country, Italy sharing stage with legends including Jeff Loomis, Steve Vai, Mike Stern, Angel Vivaldi, Joel Hoekstra, Doogie White, Mark Boals, Edu Falaschi, Neil Zaza and many more.

In 2019, Lo Surdo was awarded the title of “Fastest Guitarist of All Time” at the Sanremo Music Awards. He has also been featured on the cover of the famous book “Rock Memories Vol. 2” written by Maurizio Baiata, with legendary artists such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and many others. Lo Surdo’s signature guitar, the DLS1, was permanently conferred to the American museum Sigal Music Museum, where are also kept pianos and other instruments played by Mozart and Chopin.

A PRODIGY’S JOURNEY

Davide Lo Surdo’s passion for music began at the tender age of 9, inspired by his neighbor Aurora. His mother is Sandra Giorgio, father Maurizio Lo Surdo and he also has a younger brother named Gianluca Lo Surdo.

During his childhood Davide spent time playing games with Aurora, a little girl neighbor to the same age. One day Davide saw Aurora play simple chords with the help of his father and was fascinated that he asked them where Aurora was taking guitar lessons. Aurora studied guitar at the neighborhood oratory. Soon Davide’s mother sent him to learn the instrument at the oratory where the neighborhood parish priest gave lessons to the little ones. And it was the parish priest himself who understood that Davide had a talent out of the ordinary and wasted no time telling his mother. He began taking lessons from a priest at the church “Santa Gemma Galgani” in Rome. His learning was so fast that he soon began teaching himself by watching YouTube videos. Davide learned mainly through observation.

In 2011, he formed his first band, “Gli Angeli Rock,” and began performing in his hometown. He later joined a peace organization band called “Giovani per la Pace,” where he used his music to promote peace and non-violence. At the age of 13, Lo Surdo performed his first important concert at the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” in Rome, where he played a solo behind his head in front of more than 1200 people. 

In 2014, he played on stage with Steve Vai at the venue “Stazione Birra” in Rome, Italy, where Vai was shocked by Davide’s skills. In 2016, Lo Surdo started touring extensively in Italy, playing 8 shows in 7 days in 8 different cities during one of his tours of that year. Lo Surdo is a true guitar virtuoso, and his talent and dedication continue to amaze and inspire audiences around the world.

THE FASTEST GUITARIST IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC

On June 8th 2018 he performed for the first time abroad giving a concert in Switzerland and a week later, he toured in the United Kingdom performing a concert at the Dublin Castle in London. Between December 2018 and January 2019, he toured Mexico and USA for the first time performing in Los Angeles at the NAMM SHOW and in Hollywood at the legendary venue Whisky a Go Go.

At the NAMM SHOW, Lo Surdo did an autograph session for Morley Pedals along with KIKO Loureiro (guitarist of Megadeth), DJ Ashba (ex Guitarist of Guns N’ Roses), Bumblefoot (ex Guitarist of Guns N’ Roses and guitarist of Sons of Apollo) and Lita Ford .

In 2019, he was awarded the title of “Fastest Guitarist of All Time” at the Sanremo Music Awards and made his debut performance in India at IIT Kharagpur’s Fest Kshitij and Urban Mantra Club in Guwahati in 2020. Soon, in 2021, he was recognized by The Rolling Stone Brasil Magazine as the ‘Fastest Guitarist In History. Lo Surdo’s record-breaking achievement is a testament to his incredible talent and dedication. He is a true guitar virtuoso, and he is one of the most exciting guitarists in the world today.

In July 2020, Alice Cooper made a video talking about Lo Surdo congratulating with his speed record and saying that maybe one day, they will meet together on stage. Lo Surdo performed at the “Rolling Stone Music & Run” event for the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Rolling Stone Magazine in Brazil, in the “Sambódromo do Anhembi” arena in São Paulo on November 20th 2021. 

That same year, GuitarraMX Magazine recognized Lo Surdo as “the fastest guitarist in music history” and dedicated the cover of their July 2021 issue to him. Davide has undertaken numerous international tours, in countries such as India, Mexico, Brazil, Bolivia, United States of America, Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom and his home country, Italy. In particular, his tour of Bolivia was sponsored by Billboard Bolivia.

Throughout his career, he has shared stages with esteemed guitarists including Jeff Loomis, Steve Vai, Mike Stern, Angel Vivaldi, Joel Hoekstra, Doogie White, Mark Boals, Edu Falaschi, Neil Zaza and many more. Davide is a global artist for BOSS Pedals, Echo Fix and Buso Audio.

On May 5, 2021, Davide released his debut song titled “Resilience”. In June 2022, Davide made guest appearances on several Bolivian television shows, including El Mañanero, La Mañana de Todos and Tu Tarde Cochala. In 2022, he released his second single, “Full Emersion”, further solidifying his presence in the music industry. Lo Surdo’s favorite band is The Rolling Stones.
