Punjabi music sensation Diljit Dosanjh recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sharing his vision for elevating India’s cultural landscape on the global stage. During their meeting, Dosanjh expressed his belief that India possesses the potential to host music festivals surpassing the scale and impact of renowned events like Coachella.

“I believe we can make it much bigger,” Dosanjh stated, emphasizing the rich tapestry of Indian music. “People travel from all over the world for such festivals.” He highlighted the extraordinary musical talent prevalent throughout India, even among those without formal training. “Whether it’s someone singing in a roadside eatery or a folk musician in Rajasthan, the melodies are so captivating,” he observed. “I, a professional singer, am often awestruck by their talent.” Dosanjh emphasized that by nurturing this inherent talent, India could attract music enthusiasts from across the globe.

Acknowledging his immense admiration for the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, he says, “Maine aapka ek interview dekha tha sir haal hi mein. Humare liye pradhanmantri ek bahaut bada pad hai ki shayad hum jo uske picha Maa Beta aur insaan hai vo bhool jaate hain, kyunki ‘auda’ bahaut bada hai. Jab aap apne maa ko leke aur ganga maiya ko leke aapka dil bhara hai vo touch hota hai, sir. Actually ye dil se baat nikli hai tabhi dil tak gayi hai.”

Prime Minister Modi warmly received Dosanjh’s vision. “I’ve been contemplating this for years,” the Prime Minister shared. “India is home to the world’s largest film industry. I aim to initiate a significant movement through the upcoming World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES), positioning India as the global center for the creative world.”

PM Modi also recounted a conversation with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, where he discussed the diverse musical landscape of India. “I explained to her that music in India varies with the time of day, from the melodies of sunrise to the rhythms of dusk,” he said. “And that music adapts to every emotion, from joy to sorrow. She was incredibly intrigued.”

Diljit Dosanjh, fresh from his highly successful “Dil-Luminati India Tour,” shared his experiences with the Prime Minister. “It was the largest tour ever undertaken by an Indian artist,” he remarked. “Traveling across the country reinforced my deep-rooted belief in the greatness of India.” PM Modi praised Dosanjh’s achievements and acknowledged his down-to-earth demeanor despite his immense popularity. “When a young man from a small village shines on the global stage, it fills us with immense pride,” the Prime Minister said.

This meeting between Diljit Dosanjh and Prime Minister Modi signifies a shared vision for elevating India’s cultural prominence on the world stage, leveraging its rich musical heritage to create global music events that rival the best in the world.
