Indian Musicians Shine At The GRAMMYs 2025. Here’s Everything About The 6 Indian Nominees

The 2025 Grammy Awards have once again underscored the global impact of Indian music. A remarkable six Indian-origin artists have been nominated across various categories, a testament to the rich and diverse musical heritage of India.

Ricky Kej: A Perennial Grammy Favorite
Renowned composer and environmentalist Ricky Kej has once again been nominated for his album “Break of Dawn” in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category. This is Kej’s fourth Grammy nomination, having previously won three awards for his collaborative work with Wouter Kellerman and Stewart Copeland. Kej’s music seamlessly blends Indian classical and world music elements, creating a unique and captivating sound.

Anoushka Shankar: A Legacy Continues
Sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar, daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar, has been nominated in two categories. Her album “Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn” is up for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album, while her collaboration with Jacob Collier on the song “A Rock Somewhere” is nominated for Best Global Music Performance. Anoushka Shankar’s contributions to Indian classical music and her fusion of traditional and contemporary styles have earned her international acclaim.

Radhika Vekaria: A New Age Voice
Radhika Vekaria, a British artist of Indian origin, is a contender for the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album award for her album, “Warriors of Light.” This album showcases her vocal prowess in Sanskrit, Hindi, Tamil, and English. “Warriors of Light” is her second musical offering, following her 2020 debut, “Sapta: The Seven Ways.” Despite being based in Los Angeles, Radhika’s roots trace back to the UK. Her parents hail from East Africa, and her grandparents are Indian. Her upbringing was deeply influenced by classical Indian music, thanks to her mother, grandmother, and father, who were all connoisseurs of the genre. 

Chandrika Tandon: From Chennai to the Grammys
Chandrika Tandon, a renowned entrepreneur and artist, is also a nominee for the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category with her album “Triveni.” Collaborating with renowned flutist Wouter Kellerman and cellist Éru Matsumoto, Tandon has created a truly inspiring musical experience. As the older sister of Indra Nooyi, Tandon’s journey to musical excellence began in the middle-class neighborhood of T Nagar, Chennai. She honed her skills under the tutelage of classical singer Shubhra Guha and vocalist Girish Wazalwar. Tandon’s first Grammy nomination came in 2010 for her album “Om Namo Narayana: Soul Call.

Varijashree Venugopal
The multi-talented artist Varijashree Venugopal has made history by earning a Grammy nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category for her collaboration with Jacob Collier and Anoushka Shankar on “A Rock Somewhere.” This marks her debut Grammy nomination. Venugopal’s musical journey extends beyond this nomination, as she has also contributed to Ricky Kej’s acclaimed album ‘Break of Dawn’. 

Noshir Mody
Mumbai-born musician Noshir Mody has made his mark on the global music scene by receiving his first Grammy nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category. He is featured on the song “Kashira” by Masa Takumi, alongside Ron Korb and Dale Edward Chung. A self-taught musician, Mody moved to the United States at the age of 22, where he honed his guitar skills and immersed himself in the vibrant New York City jazz scene.
