The guitar, be it electric, acoustic, Indian classical, bass, or other string instruments, is a unique part of modern music. Though many of us have heard the guitar as one of the coolest instruments as part of songs, not many people are aware of the musical magic that it weaves as a solo instrument. Whether you’re an audiophile or not, it’s certainly a delight witnessing the magicians of Guitar in action. Making this a reality, the Mumbai Guitar Day had an exclusive live event on 24th July 2021 at 7PM.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

This year’s celebration presented a golden opportunity to watch and listen to the greatest guitarists across the world at your fingertips. The 2021 edition featured artists like the ‘fastest guitarist of all time’, Davide Lo Surdo from Italy, the world famous American singer-guitarist Maline Moye, Bass player Bubby Lewis from Los Angeles, ace guitarist Rhythm Shaw from Mumbai, hidden talent from Kolkata Nilanjana Ghosh, the incredible Esani Dey, Kush Upadhyay, Shivin Shirodkar and Rickraj Nath from Mumbai and among many others. Witness the concert here:

We reached out to some of the artists. Here’s what they had to say:

Hearing it from the ‘World’s Fastest Guitarist’ Davide Lo Surdo,

“I really enjoyed this experience! Mumbai Guitar Day is a fantastic event and I am happy to have been part of it and I certainly have plans to do an India tour soon.”

Ace guitarist Rhythm Shaw said,

“It’s always a pleasure to be part of a cause which concentrates on the actual performance of an artist-where they get to play their heart out! Anna Rakita and I had a lovely time performing ‘Mimosa’ by Hono Winterstein, a gypsy Jazz standard. I enjoyed every bit of it!”

In words of Rickraj Nath,

“Just the kind of talent that was on display, completely blew my mind. There’s only one word that can describe how I felt about the event, ‘overwhelmed.’ All in all it was a surreal experience to say”

The young artist Shivin Shirodkar added,

“This has been an absolutely amazing opportunity for me to showcase my music. It was an extremely humbling experience. Unlike last year, where I performed cover music, this year my original composition being played along with many great artists was a highlight for me!”

Summing up the event, the curator Neil Banks said,

“The idea of the event is to inspire the young generation, listeners and students of Guitar. As a curator, I make sure to carefully curate events with varied performances and at the same time, cater to what the audience exactly expects. For me, all artists are unique and they have their own talent.”

Going forward with doing such events, he added,

“With genuine sponsors coming on board and being a part of the event, featuring artists like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Slash, Mumbai Guitar Day and likewise Piano Day & Drum Day could possibly be one of the most highlighted events in the world! People from all over Asia can come and watch the show! That’s my ultimate aim.”
