The legendary band, The Beatles, is set to unveil a final record that incorporates the voice of the late John Lennon, utilizing the aid of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Paul McCartney, Lennon’s former bandmate, revealed that the recording had been completed using an old demo tape and will be released this year, marking it as the last Beatles record. McCartney, alongside Ringo Starr, one of the surviving band members, expressed their excitement about this remarkable endeavor.

Rather than McCartney simply instructing an AI model to sing a John Lennon verse, the process involved utilizing source material from a demo recording that Lennon had made prior to his tragic death in 1980. McCartney elaborated on the technique, stating, “We were able to take John’s voice and get it pure through this AI, so that then we could mix the record as you would normally do. So, it gives you some sort of leeway.”

McCartney’s inspiration to explore this avenue of technology came after witnessing filmmaker Peter Jackson’s expertise in reviving archival materials for his documentary, “Get Back,” which chronicled the band’s journey in creating the “Let It Be” album. McCartney was impressed by Jackson’s ability to extract Lennon’s voice from a low-quality cassette recording, utilizing AI to isolate and separate the vocals and other instrumental elements.

While McCartney did not disclose specific details about the upcoming record, it is worth noting that in 1994, Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, reportedly shared several of Lennon’s home demo recordings with McCartney. Among these recordings was Lennon’s cherished love song, “Now And Then.” Previous attempts to finalize the song had been hindered by the poor audio quality of Lennon’s original vocal recording.

During the interview, McCartney also expressed his concerns regarding the future applications of AI technology, particularly its potential to manipulate and deceive listeners by replacing one singer’s vocals with another. McCartney’s sentiment highlights the ethical considerations surrounding the use of AI in music production.

As anticipation builds for the release of this final Beatles record, fans eagerly await the unveiling of this unique musical endeavor that brings together Lennon’s timeless voice and the power of AI technology. The project serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of The Beatles and showcases the possibilities that emerge when artistry and innovation intertwine.
